OUR NEW GENERATION OF MOTION-CUEING SYSTEMS EXPLAINED
D-BOX Technologies Inc. is proud to introduce “D-BOX Gen II” (for 2nd generation) actuators. This latest evolution of its motion-cueing solutions gives adopters an unprecedented range of creativity and flexibility, yet stays true to the ease of deployment and cost efficiency the company is recognized for.

- New Actuators (Horizontal or Vertical placements made possible)
- New Actuator Control Module (ACM) Gen II (to manage new actuators and replace the previous ACM Generation)
- New ending (Omnidirectional endings to replace Gen 1 directional endings. New Ball Joint endings.)
- AIF program allowing to reprogram ACMs to allow relative actuators definition (Quad, Triad, Dual, position, assigned DOF)
- Firmware update via D-BOX website (allowing independent and controlled evolution of firmware by customers themselves)
- Existing 3 DOF motion codes are natively supported
- Motion codes evolution to 6 DOF will be progressively done by D-BOX or based on demand from adopters
To ensure that D-BOX users can build solutions with just the right DOF they need, the actuators approach makes the most sense.
D-BOX is also providing services to help integrators validate their configurations and hardware integrations so they can build their motion platforms (including the new 6DOFs made possible by Gen II)
The evolution of motion codes to 6 DOF will be progressively completed by D-BOX or looked after based on demand from adopters.
Formally used in the Gen-I lower stroke systems, the Kai-1P is no longer available. The new Gen-II solution features the KCU-1P.
The KCU-1P connects directly to the USB port just like the Kai-1P, but is no longer recognized as an audio device by the computer. If you were using audio signals to control the actuator system, please contact us so we can help you reprogram your system to correspond with our motion coding standards.
To activate its multiple features, the KCU-1P needs a power input. See the image of the back end for reference.
1. Actuator mechanics
The modifications made to the systems include changes in the overall actuator dimensions. All motors (250lb, 400lb, 500lb) are now equipped with a device for new horizontal positioning. This addition adds approximately 0.5 inch to the global actuator size.
The mechanics of the 1.5-inch (i series) actuator have changed considerably in size and form. The mechanics are now shorter and its fixation holes are different. There is no nylon screw anymore and we have added a sleeve to guide the mechanism.
2. Actuator cables
All the cables located between the ACM and the actuator motor have been standardized to 63 inches to allow more length for yaw motion. The cable length was previously 63 inches for all 6IN actuators and 51 inches for all 1.5IN and 3IN actuators.
3. ACM and step-down transformer
There are no changes to the ACM dimensions or its step-down transformer.

There are 3 different types of captive endings that adapt to the different actuator models. We can help you with your selection but the following table will summarizes how they are classified.
The new captive endings (1) come in 2 parts when they are ordered:
- The main body which adapts to your actuators.
- The ‘’space retainer’’ which adapts to your DOF.
The three spacer-retainers and their correct usage are outlined in the following diagrams:

The systems are now programmed as follows:
- 2xBACK for 2x actuator system
- 2xFRONT/2xBACK for 4x actuator system
- 1xFRONT/2xBACK for 3x actuator system
